The Grace of the Universal Mother
Sri Maha Devi Aalayam is a traditional Hindu Tamil temple dedicated to Sri Maha Devi Amman — the Supreme Mother, Adi Parashakti, who is at once the gentle nurturer of her children and the fierce protector who removes every obstacle.
In Tamil, an aalayam (ஆலயம்) is the place where the soul (aanma) merges (layam) with the Divine. True to that meaning, the temple is a place of quiet refuge where families of Karur and the Kongu region come to pray, to give thanks and to fulfil their vows before the Mother.
Worship here follows the time-honoured Tamil Agama tradition — six daily poojas, the chanting of Tamil and Sanskrit hymns, the offering of turmeric, kumkum, neem and lamps, and a calendar of festivals that has united the community for generations.
கரூர் மாவட்டத்தின் புண்ணிய பூமியில் அருள்பாலிக்கும் ஸ்ரீ மகாதேவி அம்மன், ஆதிபராசக்தியின் திருவுருவம். பிள்ளைகளைத் தாய்போல் அரவணைக்கும் கருணையும், துன்பங்களை அகற்றும் வீரமும் ஒருங்கே கொண்டவள். ‘ஆலயம்’ என்றால் ஆன்மா இறைவனுடன் லயிக்கும் இடம் — அதற்கேற்ப, நாள்தோறும் ஆறு கால பூஜைகள், தமிழ் மற்றும் வடமொழித் துதிகள், மஞ்சள், குங்குமம், வேப்பிலை, விளக்கு வழிபாடுகளுடன் இந்த ஆலயம் பக்தர்களுக்கு அமைதியும் அருளும் தரும் புகலிடமாக விளங்குகிறது.

The Six Daily Poojas
As in the great Agamic temples of Tamil Nadu, the Mother is worshipped six times a day — from dawn to the sacred hour of rest.

Ushathkalam
உஷத்காலம்Dawn worship. The sanctum opens with Thiruppalliyezhuchi and the first deepa aradhana.
8:00AM
Kalasanthi
காலசந்திMorning abhishekam with milk, curd, turmeric and sandal, followed by alankaram.
11:30AM
Uchikalam
உச்சிகாலம்Noon pooja with naivedyam offering before the temple rests for the afternoon.
5:30PM
Sayarakshai
சாயரட்சைThe twilight pooja — the most visited hour, with lamps lit across the aalayam.

Irandamkalam
இரண்டாம் காலம்Evening archana and recitation of Amman stotrams by the archakas.

அர்த்தஜாமம்The final pooja of the day, with palliyarai rituals before the sanctum closes.
